Does God send visions?

I believe that God in the name of Jesus is speaking to me, I have had visions. ????????????
Sincerely, Seeker

Dear Seeker,

Thank you for your question. It is a good one.

You don’t seem to have any doubt that God can speak to you or that you can have visions. And I agree.

I remember Larry King on CNN interviewing Della Reese (Touched by an Angel TV series). Della recounted how the Lord had instructed her to participate in the pilot run of ‘Touched by and Angel’ and that it would be accepted and run for 10 years (which it did). Larry then asked Della: ‘Does God speak to you?’ Della’s response was: ‘Doesn’t He speak to you? He speaks to anyone who wants to listen to Him.’

When it comes to hearing words or having visions from God however, one needs to know or have discernment about the sources of such words or visions.

For example, someone may so want to hear or have visions from God, that he or she imagines it happening. Or they can be a result of going to bed after eating too much pizza. Secondly, they may be coming from the Holy Spirit after prayerfully reading a passage in Sacred Scripture. Then finally, they can come from the devil (trying to screw up your life). These three sources are sometimes labelled as coming from ‘the flesh’, from ‘the Holy Spirit’ or ‘from the devil’.

Usually, a person who is receiving from the Holy Spirit, has a good prayer-life (receiving the Sacraments, and daily spending time with the Lord while prayerfully reading the Sacred Scriptures).

Just from your opening statement: ‘I believe that God in the name of Jesus is speaking to me’ seems to indicate that you might be living such a life-style.

I would advise you to seek someone who has experience in these matters for the confirmation of both the source and contents of such words and visions is critical.

Pray that God will send someone across your path to help you.
